mike_gourlay_150Mike Gourlay is an Associate Consultant of GDP Global. He is also a non executive director and an independent consultant specialising in foreign direct investment. He has over 35 years of international business experience, more than half of which was spent in overseas locations. At Think London, the official foreign direct agency for Greater London, he was until December 2008 responsible for attracting investment projects from the Asia Pacific, European and African regions.

Mike is currently a Non Executive Director of Aegon Direct Services Europe Ltd and Stonebridge International Insurance Ltd. He has previously served on a number of other Boards including those of Royal Sun Alliance Thailand, Direct Marketing Services KK (Japan), Globe Reinsurance (IOM), Syn Mun Kong Insurance PCL (Bangkok) and was Chairman of RSA IT Solutions (India).

At Think London Mike and his team completed projects with some 500 companies thereby creating or safeguarding well over 10,000 jobs. He established representative offices for Think London in Beijing (2006) and Mumbai (2007) and organised an associated programme of business seminars and meetings for the then Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone. Mike has conducted numerous overseas lead generation trips on behalf of London and is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars.

Before he joined Think London in December 2000, Mike held a number of senior management positions within the International Division of the Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group spanning some 25 years. Following spells as Country Manager in the Philippines and Japan he held a number of Asia Pacific regional roles culminating in that of regional director based in Singapore with responsibility for commercial insurances, strategic planning, and emerging markets.

Mike speaks fluent French and English and passable German and Japanese.
